There is one thing to say. First degree attempted murder just became first degree murder. I have no idea whether the prosecutor can do a do-over after initial sentencing for attempted murder but my guess is that he can. I do know that a victim has one year to expire after an event to call it murder. Sowers was beaten on June 2, 2007, so Trayvon is within the timeframe limits.

Trayvon better make that phone call to his trusty public defender to see what's what. He's got a bit of a problem. His 40 years could easily become life without parole. He better fire up an apology letter fast.

I don't know what to say either, that's so tragic.

    Cham,

Unfortunately, our idiot SA Pat Jessamy gave Trayvon a plea deal where he can't be tried for murder. I guess we'll have to cross our fingers and hope that Trayvon pisses off the wrong inmate in Hagerstown.

Yep, they can't try him or any of the other three for murder now, and the other three will be out in a few years. It disgusts me beyond belief. If there is anything truly broken about Baltimore, it's having a State's Attorney that doesn't prosecute. Jessamy needs to be removed from office. She's an ineffective twit who doesn't give a damn about crime.

Trayvon was 16 at the time. At that age I am not sure the brain is functioning on all 8 cylinders. I'm not big on frying people but, geeze louise, I think the city needs to better enforce the death penalty when it comes to first degree premeditated murder. Trayvon might have thought twice before robbing someone for a few dollars, a watch and some traceable credit cards if he knew that his life could have been shortened significantly for doing the deed.

The sad part of this was the outrage on the part of community about this, mainly because Mr. Sowers was white, gainfully employed and a yuppie. Black youths, many of them involved in drugs and gangs die every day around here, and their murders go unsolved because nobody really cares, nobody follows the cases. Who knows how many people our friend, Trayvon, capped before he got to Mr. Sowers. The whole situation really gets my goat.

We'll never see anyone tried for capital murder in Baltimore City as long as Patricia Coats Jessamy is our state's attorney. She lets her personal feelings about capital punishment get in the way of doing her job (not to mention her animosity towards the former mayor, the police department, and even Anna Sowers!!!). Regardless of her stance, she is sworn to represent the interests of the people- and if the people believe that someone should be eligible for the death penalty then she needs to follow their will- otherwise, she needs to step the f*ck aside and become a defense attorney.

True that this is just one of many murders that occurred in Baltimore City, but this one did affect so many people because he was innocent. I do feel for the innocent victims of crime but I can't pretend to care about people in the drug game getting capped. I get pissed off about witness intimidation and harassment though. Trayvon was out on bail for carjacking when he beat Zach. It's disgusting.

I'm so sad for the youth that think it's perfectly reasonable to beat someone to death to rent dvds and buy gas. They don't understand the value of life, unless it's their own... at least that's what I'm getting out of the plea deal.
